E-Recycling Certifications: ISO 14001 & NAID

Certifications

Liquid Technology is an ISO 14001 certified e-waste recycler, a member of NAID® and an e-Stewards Enterprise. But what does all of this mean to you? What are these certifications and memberships for and what requirements did Liquid Technology have to meet in order to be granted certification?

ISO 14001 Certification

The ISO is the International Organization for Standardization that's responsible for setting International standards for businesses, government and society. The ISO 14000 family of standards addresses several aspects of environmental management. More specifically, by meeting the guidelines as outlined in ISO 14001, Liquid Technology has been found to:

  • Meet current environmental regulations
  • Provide customers, the community and regulatory agencies with an assurance on environmental issues
  • Support its own environmental policies, plans and actions
  • Provide its employees with assurances that they are working for an environmentally-responsible organization
  • Receive annual external audits to ensure all guidelines are being met

NAID Member

NAID is the National Association for Information Destruction. It is an International trade association that certifies ethical and responsible providers of data destruction services. As a member of NAID, Liquid Technology fully adheres to the association's code of ethics, which includes:

  • Members shall not by any means engage in, nor allow the use of, statements that are false, misleading, incomplete, or likely to mislead consumers or members of the public.
  • Members shall respect the confidential nature of the customers' records and shall maintain appropriate protection to prevent any disclosure of such information except when required by law.
  • Members shall price their services in a manner that accurately reflects the terms of service and pricing as understood by the client.
  • Members shall abide by Federal, State and local laws and regulations.
  • Members shall abide by, and be subject to, the By-Laws of the Association.
  • Members shall deal fairly with their customers, employees and suppliers.
  • Members shall be good corporate citizens by serving the community.

The NAID Membership Program also has standards in place for secure destruction processes, which include such areas as operational security, employee hiring and screening, the destruction process, responsible disposal and insurance. As a member, Liquid Technology meets or exceeds NAID's standards and guidelines.

E-Stewards Enterprise Standards

If you're looking for a reputable and environmentally-responsible e-recycler, one of the easiest ways to find one is to look for the e-Stewards Standard on their website or printed material. An e-Steward Enterprise addresses critical areas within the e-recycling industry, such as:

  • Secure data destruction and security
  • Minimum on-site practices with an emphasis on the toxic materials found in all e-waste
  • Worker protection issues
  • Protocols for ethical and legitimate reuse and/or refurbishment
  • Export of toxic materials from e-waste
  • Accountability for the complete recycling chain concerning the disposal of toxic e-waste

As an e-Stewards Enterprise, Liquid Technology adheres to all of the e-Steward guidelines and requirements, including:

  • Full accountability for all hazardous e-waste from equipment breakdown to the final disposition
  • Does not use prison labor for the processing of hazardous e-waste
  • Provides secure data destruction services before recycling any technology equipment
  • Follows the social accountability values within SA 8000, including the utilization of e-Steward certified downstream partners
  • Obtains and maintains required state, provincial and local permits covering specific operations, controls and limitations
