The Serious Ramifications of Failing to Comply with GDPR

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliant deadline is approaching. By May 25th, companies need to be compliant if they in any way collect or process personal data from people in the EU. GDPR will replace the 1995 Data Protection Directive. The new policy was created to protect EU user data.

The law also requires organizations to provide users with the ability to control, monitor, and delete their information. Any data breaches that affect customer’s information also must be reported in 72 hours. The GDPR is recommending specific techniques to help mask and encrypt consumer data. The approved methods they suggest are pseudonymization, anonymization, and encryption.

Is your company compliant with the GDPR? The regulation should be taken seriously. Companies who are not compliant with the regulation risk a fine. The fine could be 20 million Euros or up to 4 percent of an organization’s global turnover.  Either amount would be a tremendous loss for a business.
